Maureen's Commitment to Collierville

Committed to Our Future

I propose a moratorium on any new apartment entitlements. The apartments currently being built were granted entitlements several decades ago, long before the current board members were in office. All that has been approved recently are the development/ construction plans for the same land for which these entitlements were granted to years ago, and the land owner has finally decided to build on. These plans must comply with all current design regulations, which are, purposely, extremely strict. These plans also have to go through a gauntlet of approvals and review with CPD, CFD, Code Enforcement, and Engineering, to include traffic and sewer and water capacity.

As an elected official who took the Oath of Office for the Town of Collierville, I cannot vote against an individual's property rights, knowing he has the entitlements to legally build apartments. A denial of this would mean more taxpayer dollars spent on lawsuits against the Town.

Some property owners have inquired about transferring unused entitlements from one piece of land to another, or asking for variances against the aforementioned strict design and planning guidelines. To each of those, I have always voted NO.

Growth is necessary, but it has to be deliberate, meaning the type of growth the Town wants and on our terms.

Committed to Our Safety

One of the primary reasons folks choose to move to Collierville is its reputation for safety. Collierville boasts top-notch Police, Fire, and new EMS Departments, whose successes are driven by robust recruitment and retention strategies and are further enhanced by the best equipment, resources, training, and competitive wages. Public safety will be my top priority as Mayor, and I will ensure our first responders are fully equipped and supported to serve our community.

Committed to Our Schools

Our Collierville School System is the most sought-after in the area, and our facilities and teachers are unparalleled. Great schools not only make Collierville a desirable community but also directly contribute to high property values. As Mayor, I will work closely with the Collierville Board of Education to maintain the outstanding education our students deserve.

Committed to Our Fiscal Responsibility

Fiscal responsibility, like public safety and great schools, is integral to our community’s high quality of life. As your Mayor, I will be dedicated to maintaining low tax rates and conservative fiscal policies. Collierville’s $110.7 million budget is meticulously vetted each year, prioritizing the needs and wants of our citizens and staff to achieve a State-required balanced budget. This diligent financial management has earned Collierville one of only twelve Moody’s AAA bond ratings in Tennessee, securing our access to the lowest possible interest rates should capital improvements become necessary.
